Course Objectives Biomimetics in textiles
Course Description Definition of biomimetic. Biomimetic concepts in textiles. Biomimetic in fibers, comparison of biological and synthetic materials. Mimicking plants for super hydrophobicity, self-cleaning, drag reduction. Multifunctional properties and surface structures of plant leaves. Mimicking aquatic animals for low hydrodynamic drag and its applications in swimwear. Mimicking birds for light coloration, camouflage, insulation and aerodynamic lift. Mimicking fur and skin of polar bear in thermal insulation. Mimicking spider web for biological self-assembly. Mimicking biological systems for self-healing and sensory-aid devices. Self-assembling systems: Fabricating nanowires using bioscaffold. Self-assembling systems: Nanofiber peptide and protein scaffolds. Artificial muscles using electroactive polymers. Biomimetic and sustainability relation for least environmental impact. Reality, challenges and outlook in textile biomimetic.
Course Outcomes 1. To learn biomimetic concept and principles.
