Course Objectives
1. From sustainability point of view, to give information about the systematic vision and the value chain in fashion industry
2. To provide knowledge about initiatives as well as approaches for preparing ethical codes, regulations, standards etc. for sustainable fashion industry
3. To provide technical knowledge for integrating sustainability for the practice in fashion
4. To discuss principles and concepts for consumers’ attitudes towards sustainable fashion
Course Description
The social and ecological consequences of the current operation of the fashion industry. Sustainability in the sector.and impacts on increases in consumption and waste disposal. This course takes a wide-screen approach to the topic, covering, among other issues: sustainability and business management in textile and fashion companies; value chain management; use of materials; sustainable production processes; fashion, needs and consumption; disposal; and innovation and design.
Course Outcomes
I. General knowledge on ethical and sustainable fashion processes.
II. General knowledge on the initiatives (ethical codes, regulations, standards, etc) for sustainable fashion
III. Ability to evaluate the current methods/technologies for embedding sustainability in fashion processes
IV. Ability to effectively utilize the current methods such as recycling and re-design for sustainable fashion
V. Ability to discuss the impact of sustainable fashion on global economy
VI. Ability to suggest innovative design and sourcing approaches for the consumers with high standards for ethical as well as environmental issues
