MKS 543E - Additive Manufacturing Processing and Design
Course Objectives
1. Teach Additive Manufacturing’s effects on manufacturing industry and its importance to the Industry 4.0.
2. Give the ability to select the appropriate process, material and the tools for the creative complex AM designs.
3. To give the students a fundamental understanding of the process parameters for various AM technologies and their effects on the parts quality.
4. Identify currently active industries that benefit from AM and specify the technological improvements required to spread in a wider range of applications.
Course Description
Additive manufacturing (AM) process principles, fused deposition modeling, stereolithography, binder jetting process; metal powder bed fusion and direct deposition AM processes; AM parts’ mechanical strength and deformation behavior, design flow of the AM, computer based design procedures linked to AM; post-processing for AM; AM standards, engineered materials; current applications and possible future applications.
