Course Objectives
1. To provide theoretical information on the causes and process of the deterioration of traditional building materials and basic principles on cleaning and conservation of these materials.
2. Scientific, professional, and intellectual context, querying, analyzing and interpreting the capacity to give.
Course Description
Movement of water in porous building materials in liquid and gaseous state; mechanical stresses; crystallization; cycles of water soluble salts and hydrated salts; biodeterioration; traditional binders, mortars, plasters and conservation mortars; stone cleaning, consolidation, glueing, plastic repairs; clay, adobe, bricks; masonry conservation and repair techniques; deterioration and conservation of organic materials, wood, paper and textiles.
Course Outcomes
Graduate students who successfully pass this course gain the following knowledge, skills and proficiencies:
