Course Objectives
Improvement of the ability to
1. Evaluate the parameters that have effect on fragmentation efficiency
2. Measure and analyze of blast induced fragmentation
3. Design the blasts to achieve highest fragmentation efficiency
Course Description
The main objective of the course is evaluation of the blasting activities in open pit mines and underground mines in terms of blast fragmentation. The blast design parameters and the rock properties related to fragmentation are examined in detail. The methods used to measure fragmentation efficiency are analyzed. The effect of the fragmentation efficiency on mining operations is investigated. After course completion, the students will be able to create the blast designs to achieve highest fragmentation efficiency.
Course Outcomes
Students will be able to;
1. Understand the relationship between rock properties and fragmentation
2. Evaluate blast design in terms of the fragmentation efficiency
3. Predict the effect of the blasting on the mining operations
4. Completely understand the measurement and prediction approaches for the fragmentation efficiency
5. Use the blast design software
6. Develop the appropriate blast designs to achieve highest fragmentation efficiency
Pre-requisite(s)
Required Facilities
The software related to blast design and fragmentation will be used (JKSimblast, Wipfrag, Wipjoint).
