Course Objectives
I.To help understanding the chemistry of binding, chemical structure, and reactions which form basic of natural and synthetic polymer chemistry.
II.To gain a comprehensive overview on production methods and various physical and chemical properties of natural and synthetic polymers.
III.To teach the current and high-level knowledge on compounds and complexes of natural and synthetic polymers.
IV.To gain the consciousness on designing and applying a specific subject giving examples usage and the current applications of natural and synthetic polymers.
V.To teach production methods of ındustrial polymers.
Course Description
Classification and chemical structure of natural and synthetic polymers. Chemical and structural properties and biological importance of carbohydrates, proteins, cellulose, lignins, natural rubber, natural heteropolymers. Biocompatible macromolecules. The polymerization processes and industrial applications of synthetic polymers.
Course Outcomes
MS. students who successfully pass this course gain knowledge, skills and competency in the following subjects;
I.Defination, classification and chemical structure of monomer, polymer, resins.
II.Chemical structure, physical properties and of natural and synthetic polymers.
III.Classification of polymers; Physical and chemical properties of thermoset and thermoplastic, and differences between the thermoset and the thermoplastic polymers.
IV.Special monomers processes for production of natural and synthetic polymers.
V.The industrial polymers usage and applications.
VI.Procedures and chemicals in the use of polymerization systems, pphysical and chemical properties and differences between the natural and synthetic polymers.
VII.Preparation and presentation a term paper related with the natural and synthetic macromolecules course.
