FIZ 532E - Lasers and Photonics
Course Objectives
Teaching the fundamental physical principles behind lasers and distincions between laser light and other sources.
Teaching the principles and physical properties of the three basic components (active medium, resonator, pump) of lasers
Informing about different types of lasers (solid sate, gas, semiconductor etc.) and scientific and industrial applications of lasers and photonics.
Course Description
Electromagnetic theory; fundamentals of laser physics; properties of laser light; emission, absorption and stimulated emission; energy levels in solids, liquids, gases and semiconductors; stable and unstable laser cavities; continuous wave and transient laser behavior; laser types; scientific and industrial applications of lasers; fiber optics and fundamental concepts in photonics.
