Course Objectives
Introduction to Solid State and Condensed Matter Physics
Course Description
Crystal Structures, The Reciprocal Lattice, Determination of Crystal Structures, The Free Electron Model: Drude and Sommerfeld, The Classical and Quantum Theory of the Harmonic Crystal: Phonons, Debye and Einstein Models, Electron in a Periodic Potential: Bloch theorem, Nearly free electron model, Fermi surface and the density of states, The Tight-Binding Model
Course Outcomes
-Concepts of Crystal Lattices, Structures analysıs technics,
-Condensed Matter structure and behavior
-Using Quantum Theory and introducing the Bloch theorem, Fermi surface and the density of states where classic theory is not sufficient to explain the physics.
-Calculating the Energy Bands, Geometrical,
Optical properties of metals: Free electron transitions (intraband and interband). Plasmons;
-Learning the Tight-Binding Model and use it in the analysis of electron band structure.
