Course Objectives 1. Provide essential knowledge on friction, wear, lubrication.
2. Identify problems related to friction, lubrication and wear in automotive applications.
3. Learn how to analyze tribological problems in various automotive applications.
Course Description Theory of Friction, Lubrication and Wear. Applications of Tribology in Automotive Applications. Powertrain Tribology; Engine Lubrication and Oil Consumption; Tribology and Rheology of Engine Oils; Friction Clutches and Transmission Lubrication; Friction Brakes; Surface Analysis; Testing Methods; Friction of Pneumatic Tires.
Course Outcomes 1. Learn the fundamentals of friction, lubrication and wear with automotive examples
2. Learn the basic theory of lubrication in automotive applications.
3. Learn modeling, simulation and testing methods of tribological issues in automotive applications.
4. Gain necessary theoretical and calculation skills to solve tribological problems in motor vehicle components such as engine, clutch, transmission brake, and pneumatic tires.
