MAD 610 - Numerical Methods in Mines and Tunnels
Course Objectives
Support, subsidence, etc. in mines and tunnels cannot be directly evaluated due to their complex characteristics. Numerical analysis techniques should be used for approximating real solutions. It is unavoidable for economical and safe solutions in order to design stability of underground construction and open pit slopes. Numerical methods address design and evaluation in these kind of circumstances.
Course Description
Numerical methods applications in mining and tunnelling. Elastic theory. Mechanical properties of rocks. Rock joints and behaviors. Finite element method and applications-rock slope stability, tunnel support design. Room and pillar design. Boundry elements method and applications. Finite elements and boundary elements together. Discrete elements and applications-modelling rock joints.
