Course Objectives 1. To introduce principles and techniques pertinent to extreme landscapes’ reclamation and restoration
2. To introduce the new paradigms which focus on critical reading of landscape reclamation and restoration
3. To discuss the critical role of landscape planning and design for developing innovative approaches to environmental issues.
Course Description Environmental problems, problematic landscapes and sustainability. Basic principles and techniques of landscape reclamation and restoration. Legal framework. Restoration ecology. Brownfields. Mines and quarries. Solid waste disposal sites. Forests. Dunes. Rivers and wetlands. Arid landscapes. Interpretation of contemporary case studies and discussion. Critical role of landscape planning and design for developing innovative approaches.
Course Outcomes Graduate students who successfully pass this course gain the following knowledge, skills and proficiencies
1.To understand the basic principles and techniques pertinent to landscape reclamation and restoration
2.To understand the legal framework and policies pertinent to landscape reclamation and restoration
3. To understand the interdisciplinary interaction and the critical role of landscape planning and design related with the field
