Course Objectives 1. To study the basic methods in power system analysis
2. To introduce network modeling techniques
3. Analysis and solution of power flow and short circuit problems
4. To introduce computer aided analysis techniques in power system analysis and their application
Course Description Introduction to power systems, basic principles and models of system components, per-unit systems, calculation of bus admittance matrix, power flow analysis and methods of solution, calculation of bus impedance matrix, modification of bus impedance matrix for physical changes in the network, network models for fault analysis and fault analysis, economic operation of power systems, transmission losses and calculation of B-coefficients, modeling and analysis of three phase systems, transients in power systems and stability analysis.
Course Outcomes 1. Study of the fundamental methods in power system analysis
2. Network modeling in power systems, calculation of bus admittance and bus impedance matrices
3. Power flow analysis and its solution
4. System modeling for fault analysis and application of solution methods
5. Analysis of transmission losses and economic operation of power systems
6. Study of power system transients and introduction to stability analysis
