Course Objectives
1) Teach the structure of methodology-theory /paradigm to be able to relate them to each other
2) Impact of paradigms developed in scientific knowledge during the second half of the 20th century on design related fields
3) To provide students with tools of inquiring and criticizing the sources of knowledge as a designer
Course Description
General overview of the course and meeting with the group; introduction: conceptual framework--design, knowledge, science, philosophy and paradigm in relation; knowledge sources of the designer and multi-disciplinarity; design process model; falsification paradigm; paradigm in social sciences; everythıng goes paradigm; research programmes paradigm; systems approach; vagueness / blurriedness / undefinedness paradigm; discussion: impact of epistemology on design methodology; discussion: impact of epistemology on design methodology; general overview of design and philosophy
