Course Objectives		Rock Cutting Mechanics in Mine and Tunnel Excavation
Course Description		Classification of rock cutting tools, chisel picks, conical cutters, disc cutters. Dependent and independent variables in rock cutting. Theoretical calculation of cutter forces in relieved and unrelieved cutting, Evans, Nishimatsu and Merchant ? Potts theories. The comparison of theoretical and experimental values. Empirical equations for estimation of cutter forces. Design of cutter heads with the aid of cutting theories. Wear of cutting tools and its effect on machine performance.
