Course Objectives 1. Organic reactions for the preparation of synthetic polymers are classified.
2. The reaction mechanisms are evaluated and their use in the synthesis of polymers explained.
Course Description Classification of polymerization reactions. Carbonyl addition- elimination. Carbonyl addition- substitution. Nucleophilic substitution. Addition to multiple bonds. Radical coupling. Electrophilic aromatic substitution. Chain growth polmerization. Free radicals. Heterogeneous polymerization. Reactions of polymers.
Course Outcomes MS. students who successfully pass this course gain knowledge, skills and competency in the following subjects;
I. They gain knowledge about the reaction mechanism of a number of organic reactions.
II. They gain knowledge about the application of organic reactions to the synthesis of polymers.
III. They gain knowledge about similarities and dissimilarities between the synthesis of polymers and organic compounds.
IV. They gain knowledge about important points during polymer synthesis.
