Course Objectives
Teaching the fundamentals of heat transfer through porous medium to graduate students. Teaching the
solution methods of engineering problems related with porous medium.
Course Description
Definition of porous medium. Mathematical fundamentals of this definition. Fundamentals of continium
model of porous medium. Conservation equations and entropy inequality in porous medium. Definitions
of continium properties of porous medium. Forced, natural and mixed heat convection problems. Mass
diffusion and phase change problems in porous medium
Course Outcomes
Graduate students who passes the course
1. know definition of porous medium and the continuum model of porous medium
2. know the conservation equations of porous medium
3. learn properties of continuum model and how to determine these properties
4. know forced, natural and mixed heat convection through porous medium
5. learn mass diffusion and phase change in porous medium
