CBM 629E - Remote Sensing of Air Pollu.

Course Objectives

The objectives of this course are:
1. to develop a solid background for the students in remote sensing of air pollution by understanding
the fundamentals of remote sensing science which is a state-of-the-art technology in air pollution
monitoring,
2. to familiarize the students to the process and use of the remote sensing data for both gasous and
particulate pollutants

Course Description

Fundamentals of electromagnetic radiation and remote sensing. UV-VIS-NIR spectrometers (OMI, SCIAMACHY, GOME, GOME-2) and retrieved pollutants: O3, NO2, SO2, Formaldehyde, Glyoxal, CO, CH4, and aerosols. VIS-NIR Radiometers (AVHRR, MODIS, MISR, MERIS, (A)ATSR(-2), POLDER) and retrieved parameters: Aerosol optical thickness and fine/coarse fraction. TIR Spectrometers (MOPITT, IASI, TES) and Ozone profiles, CO. Active Remote Sensing: Lidars and Radars (CALIPSO, ATLID) and aerosol profiles.
