Course Objectives 1. To gain basic understanding on plasticity theory and its applications in metal forming processes
2. To teach how to improve product quality and process efficiency using the analyze methods for metal forming processes
Course Description Elements of the theory of plasticity: Stress and strain analysis. Yield criteria, Strain hardening, plastic instability, Strain rate and temperature effects. Techniques used for the analysis of metal forming processes: Ideal work, slab analysis, upper bound approach, slip line field, finite difference and finite element methods. Application of these techniques on metal forming processes, including forging, extrusion, drawing, rolling, and sheet metal working.
