MMD 204E - Maritime Law
Course Objectives
Teaching the topics and institutions of the Maritime Law.
Course Description
Course content is as follows:
Concept and definition of law; sources and branches of law; Legal systems in the world and the Turkish legal system; sources of obligations: contracts, tort, and unjust enrichment; international conventions regarding maritime transport; ship, flag, seaworthiness; ship documents, records on board the vessel; the owner and the association of owners; captain's powers and responsibilities; maritime contracts, charter parties, contract of affreightment, layday, demurrage, bill of lading; carrier's liability; maritime casualties: general average, collision, salvage; limitation of liability; compensation for marine environmental (oil etc.) pollution damage; enforcement.
