ARC 301E - Int.to Build. Inf. Model.(BIM)

Course Objectives

- To explore the connection between BIM and building life cycle.
- To learn the basics of data management within BIM, including information structuring, classification, and data interoperability.
- To familiarize with BIM standards and protocols, including Level of Development (LOD), BIM Execution Plans (BEP), and
industry practices.
- To acquire practical experience with BIM software
- To learn methods of data export between BIM and performance analysis software and understand the principles of
performance- based design.

Course Description

This course aims to introduce students to the fundamental principles and practices of Building Information Modeling (BIM), emphasizing a computational mindset throughout the learning process. Students will gain hands-on experience with key aspects of BIM, learning to leverage computational tools like Revit and Dynamo to address specific design and construction tasks, rather than being confined by the limitations of traditional software packages. The course covers in its weekly plan a wide range of topics in lectures, tutorials and hands-on exercises. This approach aims to provide students with beginner-level knowledge and practical skills in BIM and computational design technologies, equipping them to apply these tools in architectural design processes.
