Course Objectives
1. To help students develop the habit of conducting chemistry experiments under safe conditions.
2. To reinforce their chemistry knowledge with experiments.
3. To practice basic experimental techniques and the use of some equipment.
4. To enable them to write scientific reports.
5. To help them understand the connection between chemicals and daily life.
Course Description
Laboratory safety rules, basic chemical concepts, Matter: Properties and measurement, Laboratory safety rules, basic chemical concepts (chemical compounds, solutions, stoichiometry, separation techniques), applications in the chemistry laboratory (Quantitative Preparation of KCl, Hydrates, Determination of Sodium Hypochlorite Levels in Bleach, VSEPR Theory, Synthesis of Soap, Determination and Removal of Water Hardness, Determination of Acetic Acid in Vinegar, Thermochemistry: Determination of Heat of Reaction)
