EEE 271E - Probability and Statistics

Course Objectives

Objective of the course is to give necessary background of basic concepts in probability and statistics for the engineering students.

Course Description

Basic concepts of set theory. Combinatorial analysis: Basic principle of counting, Permutations, Combinations. Probability, axioms of probability, Conditional Probability and Independence. Bayes theorem. Discrete and Continuous Random Variables: probability distributions. Mean and variance. Joint probability distributions, marginal distributions, covariance, correlation. Descriptive Statistics. Data Description and Graphical Methods: Numerical Methods of Describing Data: Measure of Central Tendency, Measure of Variability, Sampling dist. and central limit theorem Statistical intervals for a single sample; defining confidence intervals. Hypothesis testing. Simple linear regression and correlation theory.
