Dersin Amaçları The “Topics in Stratigraphic Paleontology” course contains two main parts: stratigraphy and palaeontology. Dr. Ali Mohammadi and Dr. Demet Biltekin will teach stratigraphy and paleontology parts respectively.
Dersin Tanımı The specific learning goal of this course is to gain detailed knowledge of various stratigraphic methods to characterize the 3-D spatial and temporal relationships of sedimentary rocks. The course is focused on different stratigraphic methods including lithostratigraphy, biostratigraphy, chronostratigraphy, magnetostratigraphy, sequence stratigraphy, and isotopic stratigraphy.

This course will provide students with a better understanding of the most significant tools in stratigraphic and paleoenvironmental analysis. Also, the course will enable information for the stratigraphical interpretation of sedimentary sequences and dating methods. The course will include foraminifera, nannoplanktons, marine and freshwater ostracods, pteropods, bryozoa, radiolaria, pollen and spore grains, dinoflagellates, acritarchs and chitinozoa, stratigraphic and paleoecological interpretation, biostratigraphic scales and correlations, methodological procedures in micropaleontology.
Dersin Çıktıları At the end of the course, students will improve the basic knowledge in micropaleontology, paleooceanography, and paleogeography.

The overall aim of the course is to prepare students for dealing with sedimentary rocks correlation problems.
