Dersin Amaçları • To understand the language, logic, and math of numerical methods as used in engineering and science.
• To learn how numerical analyses can be applied to a wide range of problems of importance in science, industry, and society.
• To improve the programming skills of the students.
Dersin Tanımı Accuracy estimation in numerical methods and error propagation. Root finding for system of nonlinear equations; Newton's and Newton-Raphson's Methods. Solution methods for system of linear equations. Interpolation, extrapolation, and curve fitting. Numerical differentiation integration. Numerical solutions of ordinary differential equations. Finite Differences: forward, backward, and central differences. Runge-Kutta Methods.
Dersin Çıktıları On completing this course students should/should be able to,
1. Explain numbers represented in computer memory and predict the consequential outcomes of this, and also carry out computations by computer programming
2. Find the roots of a function dependent on a single parameter via a number of methods.
3. Solve linear systems of equations.
4. Solve non-linear systems of equations.
5. Interpolate and extrapolate.
6. Conduct regression analysis through the least squares method.
7. Discretize continuous integrals and evaluate them numerically.
8. Numerically integrate ordinary differential equations.
9. Discretize partial differential equations via finite differences and turn them into algebraic equations.
10. Understand numerical errors and estimate their magnitude.
