Dersin Tanımı
Physical properties of sea water: salinity, temperature, pressure and density relations. Heat and salt budgets. Currents induced by density variations. Coriolis force, geostrophic motions, large scale currents. Wave motions: wind waves, deep and shallow water waves, surface cuurents, Ekman spiral and Ekman transport.

An awareness of physical properties of sea water.
Learning ocean dimensions, shapes and bottom materials.
Understanding of the relationship between sea water density and temperature, salinity, pressure.
Indentifying average profiles of temperature, salinity for different latitude zones.
An ability to calculate sea water density by using temperature and salinity observations with depths.
An ability to analyze sea water stability.
An awareness of equations of motions for the oceans.
An ability to calculate currents by using geostrophic balance and temperature and salt observations.
An ability to explain Ekman’s spiral and transport and dynamic processes related to them.
An awareness of surface currents and their positions over the globe.
