Dersin Amaçları Dersin amacı, kentsel gündemi oluşturan politikalara dair eleştirel bir değerlendirilme sunulması yoluyla öğrencileri kentsel mekanın yeniden üretimine dair farklı konu alanları ile tanıştırmaktır. Öğrencileri kentsel mekanın ‘yeniden’ üretiminde etkili olan inisiyatiflerin formülasyonu, uygulaması ve etkileri hakkında eleştirel düşünmeyi teşvik etmek; kentsel mekanın yeniden üretimi sürecinde etkili olan yapısal, bağlamsal ve sosyo-ekonomik yaklaşımları ve dinamikleri, bu farklı yaklaşım ve dinamiklerin birbirleri ile ilişkilerini ve etkilerini irdelemek; Türkiye’de etkili olan kentsel yeniden üretim süreçlerine, araçlarına ve çok boyutlu etkilerine dair farkındalık yaratmak; ve kentsel mekanın değişiminin ve dönüşümünün etkin yönetimi için gerekli stratejik yaklaşım ve müdahale araçları konusunda ortak bir anlayış geliştirmeye yardımcı olmak hedefidir.

The aim of the course is to provide students an opportunity to explore and examine different perspectives on the reproduction of urban space through a critical commentary on the policies and practices that influence contemporary urban agenda. It introduces students the knowledge and ability to stimulate critical thinking about the formulation, implementation and impact of initiatives that are effective in the reproduction of urban space with a focus on ‘re’ (renewal, regeneration, redevelopment), to provide students an opportunity to examine different perspectives and dynamics on the reproduction of urban space through the investigation of structural, contextual and socio-economic facets, implications and their inter-relationship, to provide awareness and facilitate understanding on the diverse processes, instruments and multi-layered implications of reproduction of urban space in Turkey, and to develop a collective understanding of strategic approaches and intervention instruments in the effective management of change in urban space.
Dersin Tanımı Ders, kentsel yenileme ve dönüşüm üzerinden kentsel mekanın yeniden üretimini kuram, politika ve pratik üzerinden irdeleyen bir dizi tematik oturumdan oluşmaktadır. Bu kapsamda dersin tematik çerçevesini oluşturan oturum başlıkları: (i) ’Re’ gündemi üzerine: Kentsel mekanın yeniden üretimi, (ii) Kentsel mekanın yeniden üretiminde değişen içerik, (iii) Terk alanlarından olanak mekanlarına: Mekan, yer ve tasarım, (iv) Kentsel ekonomi ve dönüşüm, (v) Kentsel dönüşüm ve toplum, (vi) Kentsel dönüşümün yönetimi, (vii) Türkiye’de kentsel mekanın yeniden üretimi: Kuram, politika, pratik

The course is based on a series of thematic sessions on the ‘re’ agenda and its theoretical and historical context through the exploration of different aspects and perspectives and their inter-relationship: (i) On the ‘re’ agenda: Models in the reproduction of urban space, (ii) Changing context: Evolution of urban ‘re’ framework, (iii) From brownfields to opportunity spaces: Space, place and design, (iv) Environmental responsibility, sustainability and resilience, (v) Urban economy and regeneration, (vi) Resolving community realm in urban regeneration, (vii) Managing and delivering urban regeneration, (viii) Urban ‘renewal’ in Turkey: The policy and practice
Dersin Çıktıları Dersi tamamlayan öğrenciler:
(i) Kentlerin yeniden üretimine ve değişimin etkin yönetimine dair stratejik çözümler tasarlayabilmek adına farklı politikaların ve uygulamaların kapsamı, bağlamı, performansı ve etkileri konusunda ortak bir anlayış geliştirme, eleştirel ve analitik olarak değerlendirebilir.
(ii) Kentsel yeniden üretim politikaları ile değişen ekonomik, sosyal ve politik dinamikler arasındaki ilişkiyi kavrar, eleştirel bir bakış açısı geliştirir.
(iii) Türkiye’deki kentsel yeniden üretimin bağlamı, kapsamını ve süreci konusunda geniş bir perspektif kazanarak, müdahale edebilmek için gerekli stratejik ve yaratıcı donanıma sahip olur.
(iv) Kentsel mekanın yeniden üretimi üzerine araştırma tasarımında okuma, analiz etme ve yorumlamada yaratıcı anlatı kurma ve metodolojiler hakkında bilgi sahibi olur ve beceri kazanır.
(v) Değişimin sürdürülebilir yönetimini etkileyen sosyal adalet, kentlilik, kent hakkı, eşitlik, etik gibi farklı değerler konusunda anlayış geliştirir.

On completion of the course, students will be expected to be able to attain knowledge / skills / values on:
(i) Developing collective understanding and ability to analytically assess the scope, performance and impact of policies and delivery mechanisms to design strategic proposals influencing effective management of change in urban space.
(ii) Demonstrating understanding on the relationship between policies on the reproduction of urban space and changing economic, social and political circumstances.
(iii) Broadening understanding of the scope and process in Turkey that impinge the reproduction of urban space necessary for forging a strategic and creative framework to be able to intervene.
(iv) Acquiring knowledge and developing skills on creative narrative building and methodologies in reading, analysing and interpreting in research design on the reproduction of urban space.
(v) Understanding different values affecting the sustainable management of change including social justice, citizenship, right to the city, equity, ethics, etc.
