Course Objectives 1) Gaining a deeper understanding of the philosophy of art and developing student’s abilities to think critically and analytically about art related issues.
2) Developing the ability to think theoretically and conceptually.
3) Developing the ability to communicate and discuss issues effectively.
4) Developing the ability to read and understand texts, make research and write.
5) Developing the capacity to locate and evaluate engineering problems in their social contexts.
Course Description This course is intended to be a general introduction to the major theories, concepts and issues encountered in the Philosophy of Art. It will critically examine compare, contrast and asses philosophical arguments within the context of the various essays written by philosophers. This course will address the following questions: What is art? What defines art or what makes an artwork an artwork? What are aesthetic qualities? What is meaning of aesthetic taste, attitude and experience? Are aesthetic judgments merely subjective expressions? Is there the relationship between reality and representation in art?
