ANT 511E - Settlement Patterns

Course Objectives

1. To teach students about the transition into sedentary life,
2. To teach about the development of resource use in sedentary systems,
3. To illustrate the relationships among groups in sedentary life,
4. To teach about the relationship between settlement systems and human-environment relationships.

Course Description

This course focuses on; Mesopotamia and Settlement Pattern Theories, Geography, Topography, The
Elements of Settlement Patterns, The Settlement Patterns of 5th Millennium BC, The Settlement Patterns
of 4th Millennium BC, Oikos Economy, 3rd Millennium BC Settlement Patterns, The Birth of
Bureaucracy, Ideology and Images of Power, Burial Techniques, Political Economy, Technology and
Settlement Pattern Analyses.
