Course Objectives
Climate change is a global problem which affects natural and socioeconomic systems. During this class, students will be introduced to the topics how climate system works, natural and anthropogenic causes of climate change and work on basic climate change scenarios.
Course Description
Past, present and future climate change and variability, energy flow, hydrological cycle, carbon, sulfur, nitrogen and biogeochemical cycles, natural and anthropogenic causes of climate change, greenhouse effect, greenhouse gases and aerosols, global climate models, future emission scenarios, climate projections, adaptation to climate change.
Course Outcomes
1. Explain the fundamental relationships among the components of the climate system
2. Evaluate the various natural and anthropogenic factors that shape climate.
3. Describe how past climates contribute to our current understanding of climate change
4. Explain observed and projected trends and impacts in the climate
5. Analyze different climate change scenarios and their implications.
6. Analyze and quantify the impacts of climate change, and evaluate the strategies to reduce these impacts.
