MTO 315E - Air Pollution Fundamentals
Course Objectives
This course explores aspects of the science of atmospheric pollution, looking at issues such as atmospheric composition, monitoring acidic deposition, and urban air quality. The objective of the course is mainly to provide the attendants with concept physical and chemical fundamentals, and equip the students with necessary concepts and events to enable them; to organize the basic air pollution problems in the framework of air pollution system, analyze and relate them to the atmospheric conditions
Course Description
Introduction, historical background of air pollution, atmospheric composition, concentration, air pollution system, sources of air pollution (natural and anthropogenic), major types of air pollution, meteorological aspects of air pollution, heat island, air flow and turbulence, air pollution episodes, health and welfare effects, acidic deposition, Turkish National Air Quality Standards, EU Air Quality Standards, WHO guidelines, air pollution regulations
