Course Objectives
1. To define the role, functions, authority and the responsibilities of the architect in the building production process;
2. To introduce the basic concepts and theory of management science and economics;
3. To inform the students about the management-related and economic problems at all levels of construction industry (national, firm, project and process);
4. Aware of the codes of ethics for the profession
Course Description
Basic concepts of management, Management levels in building production.
Firm level and project level managerial issues, Project delivery methods, Feasibility studies and types, Cost concepts, The factors affecting building costs, Cost estimating, cost planning and control methods, Tendering and bidding procedures, Construction contracts and specifications, Pre-construction operations, Site layout planning, Project planning and programming, Contract administration, Ethics in business environment
Course Outcomes
Students who pass the course will be able to:
I. Learning basic concepts of management and economics;
II. Learning the techniques for building economics and cost control;
III. Learning legal responsibilities and conditions of professional work;
IV. Learning professional organization/management analysis and techniques;
V. Learning tendering, bidding, contract procedures and technical documentation;
VI. Learning the techniques for project planning and programming.
