Course Objectives
1. To get students to comprehend the potentials of plant material as a design material,
2. To give an ability of solving planting design problems
3. To give an ability of efficient use of plants in spatial design
Course Description
Working with plants as landscape design materials. Composition and design characteristics ofplant materials. Technical considerations on species selection: climate, cultural suitability, availability, size, costs, and maintenance of plants. Exploring planting design topics that relate
specifically to a given site, program and design issues addressed in concurrent studio projects.
Thinking and interpreting tree canopy layers, shrub masses and ground plane layers as spaceforms and functional structures in studio project designs. Utilizing plant characteristics ofcolor, texture, and form. Considering design principlesof unity/diversity,complexity/simplicity, scale and pattern. Understanding plant community dynamics andchanges over time
Course Outcomes
Students succesfully completed this course will be able to:
İ. Foresee the design potential of plants
II. Bring solution to planting design problems
III. Be able to draw a planting design project with all its technical details
IV. Use different drawing and plantation techniques in planting design
V. Develop landscape management and maintenance guideline
