Course Objectives
· Identifying the concept of structural building material.
· The introduction of concrete, wood, steel and composite material.
· The comparison of the structural materials in respect of the structural system
Course Description
In the theme of the course, historical development of concrete as building materials and binders (lime, gypsum and cement) and puzzolans are explained. Afterwards, the aggregate, one of the the concrete components, its properties and granulometry are informed. The properties of the fresh concrete are explained in details. After explaining the concrete admixtures, the mix concrete calculations, the production of the concrete and curing conditions are informed. The mechanical properties of concrete, and durability are generally presented. The ready-mix concrete, the architectural concrete and the properties of the concrete molds are explained. The modern developments (polymer concrete, fiber based concrete) in the concrete technology are informed in details and then the masonry building materials are explained. Finally, wood, aluminum and steel structural materials are informed in details.
