MIM 466E - Architecture and Its Effects
Course Objectives
1. To understand architectural production in tandem other disciplines and spatial, socio-cultural, environmental fields of knowledge
2. To evaluate use and spatial experience as a continuum of architectural design process
3. To read, document and discuss architectural examples via literary research, on-site observations, interviews, mapping, visual, auditory and tactile documentation etc.
4. Developing architectural criticism, and complimentary textual and visual material for it.
Course Description
Architecture as building, representation or discourse, can be considered as a stimulator of spatial, social, economic, ideological, aesthetic, etc. influences. This course aims to reconsider architecture not as an isolated discipline, but as praxis that dwells inside and triggers dynamic, complex and contingent relationships. Via lectures, seminars, on-site investigations, research and documentation, the course investigates, represents and discusses contemporary, local and global architectural production in relation to their experiential, socio-cultural, material, environmental etc. effects.
