Course Objectives This course aims to explore different visual, auditory and tactile representation techniques in order to enhance communication in architecture. We intend to explore ways of representing the perceived and experienced characteristics of space next to its visual features, and experiment with existing and new representation techniques.
Course Description This course encourages students to research representation techniques in architecture through different practices and theoretical discussions. In the course, with the acknowledgement of representation as a conception, production and communication tool in architecture; each week a place is researched through technical and free hand drawing. Various productions are performed, those which bring together traditional drawing and sketching techniques of the discipline of architecture and representation tools of other disciplines, such as collage, painting, photography, film, animation, mapping, etc. Practices and discussions are conducted around visual representation of the seen, perceived and experienced in architecture. Through representational practices, social and intellectual dimensions of urban and architectural space in architecture are problematized.
