PEM 411E - Landscape Design IV

Course Objectives

1. To make students conceive the general informations and approaches about the landscape restoration issues.
2. To teach the new techniques and technologies to solve the problems of degraded areas and to introduce the developing eco-system.models.
3. To give an ability for imroving the design solutions, planning decisions and landscape projects on landscape restoration.
The studio aims to provide guidelines to identify the possible role of renewable energy systems in the landscape and habitats. Expectation from students is, using landscape itself as an energy source for today and future scenarios by investigating new strategies.

Course Description

Developing landscape and urban design process in the force of new planning decisions about improvement of urban and natural areas with problems. Using new techniques and technologies to solve those problems, and developing methods to protect the eco-system. Destroyed forest areas, abandoned quarries, coastal landfills, design of urban open spaces related to transportation system, a new evaluation of existing urban pattern, design in the historical urban patterns
The landscape projects which is generated during the studio process are defined the basic framework of the course. After introducing the project site to the students, they will prepare research presentations about the main theme of the course. All presentations will be discussed in the class in the following weeks.
The majority of the course process includes studio work on the landscape restoration and land reclamation projects which have different design problems. Every student must generate their own design projects from the analysis and planning of the site to the partial design details both technical and artistic ways of drawing. The participation of the studio process and final project outputs will be evaluated together for the final grade.
