Course Objectives 1. To give background information about GIS
2. To introduce state of the art and up to date GIS technologies
3. To show different GIS applications with regards to landscape planning and design
Course Description Main theme of this course is Geographical Information Systems (GIS). Fundamentals of GIS, spatial data and spatial analysis, data monitoring and presentation are the issues covered in this course. Throughout the course, GIS is considered in terms of theories on GIS studies, current approaches, discussions, and technologies; while basic skills for GIS applications are provided through exercises as well. The class is designed for first time users.
Course Outcomes 1. Ability to use different data of different disciplines
2. Ability to define problems and to synthesize in the light of relevant data during a planning process
3. Ability to use technology and computers during data collection and evaluation steps of planning activities
4.Ability to develop graphical expression
5. Ability to comprehend the sustainability of the natural resources, public values and cultural heritage
6. Ability to develop written and verbal communication skills in a foreign language
