Course Objectives Selection of the most appropriate structural system and material for a given structure.
Course Description Within the context of the course; earthquake engineering terminology and design earthquakes concepts are introduced. Earthquake resistant design philosophy is explained. Choice of forms and materials, effect of soil properties, reinforced concrete buildings, precast concrete buildings, steel buildings, masonry buildings, timber buildings, related codes and standards are investigated. Special topics in earthquake engineering are given.
Course Outcomes Students are taught about the seismic design principles for various types of buildings.
