Course Objectives
To explain the concept of “urban renewal” and its importance in urban planning.
To explain the aims, types and implementation areas of urban renewal.
To provide an understanding about the social, economic and legal aspects of urban renewal.
To discuss implementation problems in urban renewal areas.
To provide an understanding about the global and local dimensions of urban renewal.
Course Description
Urban renewal, definitions, concepts. Urban development and its results. Urban development strategy, urban growth ,location decisions and Urban renewal, definitions, concepts. Urban development and its results. Urban development strategy, urban growth, location decisions and functional changes. Urban decay and location of urban decay areas. Urban renewal types and areas. Economical aspects of urban renewal. Social aspects of urban renewal. Legal and administrative aspects of urban renewal. Application problems in urban renewal - Urban renewal in developed and developing countries.
Course Outcomes
1.Understand the need of urban renewal in the process of urban development and dislocation.
2.Understand the processes and types of urban renewal;
3.Understand the social, economic and legal implications of urban renewal;
4. Understand the ethical dilemmas and the role of different actors in urban renewal areas in Turkey.
5. Understand the differences and similarities in the urban renewal process between Turkey and other countries.
