SBP 218 - Project IV

Course Objectives

Within the framework of strategic spatial planning, Project IV's main objective is to determine the main components of a given settlement by applying decision-making, evaluation and analysis methods and technics, and the discussion of the development of the settlement. In respect of the approach of strategic spatial planning, it is aimed at the following steps;

• The identification of the spatial dynamics of a given settlement concerning settlement systems and spatial staging, transportation networks and relationships, space usage, and social, economic and environmental features,
• The determination of the cross-sectoral connections and their spatial impacts and the specification of the problems and technics that clarify the social, environmental and economic structure,
• The utilization of strategic decision-making methods in discussing the visions considering the legal framework and social and institutional structures.

Course Description

Depending on the strategic spatial planning approach: 1. To reveal the spatial dynamics of a settlement according to settlement systems and spatial stratification, transportation network and relations, land uses, social, economic and environmental characteristics. 2. Determining the inter-sectoral relations and their spatial effects, defining the techniques and problems that will define the social-environmental-economic structure. 3. In discussing future projections: using strategic decision-making methods by considering social-institutional structures and legal framework.
