Course Objectives 1. To provide an understanding of basic concepts and methods about the process and stages of furniture design.
2. To provide knowledge of form, material and manufacturing contemporary furniture designs through analyzing.
3. To teach the roles, responsibilities and contributions of design and designer in the furniture design process.
Course Description Introduction to contemporary furniture design: Design basics and human perception. Technology of furniture: Stability and strength in furniture. Materials, construction details, contemporary manufacturing methods. Design processes and approaches: Case histories of successful furniture design projects. Contemporary trends and trendsetters of furniture design: Designers of furniture. Future of furniture design: Evaluation of the possible scenarios for the future of furniture design.
Course Outcomes Students who passed the course satisfactorily can:
1. Investigate the effect of changing life styles and trends on furniture design.
2. Obtain knowledge of basic concepts and methods about the process and stages of furniture design.
3. Analyze and gather knowledge of form, material and manufacturing contemporary furniture designs.
4. Acquire and be able to employ the role, responsibility and contribution of design and designer in the furniture design process.
