SBP 315E - Human Culture & Environment

Course Objectives

1. To introduce key concepts of environment and behaviour in a cultural context;
2. To introduce psychological processes like environmental orientations and cognition;
3. To discuss how people use actions and behaviours to regulate their relations with the social and physical environments;
4. To demonstrate how mental and behavioural processes are reflected in different scales of environment;
5. To discuss how we can benefit from understanding the interplay of culture and environment in urban planning and design.

Course Description

scales of environment; culture; social-psychological perspective; behaviour; environmental orientations; environmental cognition and perception; privacy; personal space; territoriality and territorial behaviour; home; communities and cities; urban life; ideal cities and communities; urban planning and design.
