Course Objectives
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
Identify and describe the structural components of plants.
Understand and classify plant characteristics, including their functional uses.
Recognize and apply landscape preferences and perception concepts.
Analyze design themes and identify examples in landscape compositions.
Explain the interactions between plants and their environment, including adaptation to abiotic and biotic factors.
Course Description
Plant Material I (PEM134E) introduces students to both angiosperm and gymnosperm tree species, focusing on their ecological and soil requirements, habitats, and dispersal zones. The course explores the architectural and aesthetic characteristics of trees, including height, width, form, leaves, branches, flowers, and fruits. Additionally, students will learn about the landscape potential of different plant materials and their application in landscape compositions. The course also examines plant growth, environmental factors, and the influence of soil, geomorphology, climate, and landform on flora.
This course is structured with both theoretical classroom sessions and practical outdoor activities, including field trips and hands-on exercises. The scheduling of outdoor activities may change based on seasonal conditions, and students are expected to follow class announcements for updates.
