Course Objectives This course aims to:
1. Provide fundamental knowledge on urban interiors.
2. Introduce various approaches, techniques, and contemporary issues related to urban interiors.
3. Relate methods and processes for analyzing and evaluating the impact of urban interiors on interior architectural design.
4. Translate theoretical insights into practical design projects, allowing students to synthesize and apply their knowledge in creative and purposeful ways.
Course Description This course explores the relationship between interior design and urban spaces, examining the potential of urban interiors as a distinct area within interior design practice. The concept of "interiority" has extended beyond domestic settings, increasingly influencing public spaces. As a result, interior architecture and design now engage with contemporary communal areas, moving beyond traditional spatial boundaries.
With urban spaces progressively reflecting the rituals and habits of domestic interiors, a significant aspect of interior culture now focuses on the cityscape. While this approach has gained recognition, its complexity remains relatively underexplored.
The course follows a seminar-studio format, combining theoretical exploration, case studies, and design projects. This integrated approach equips students with the knowledge and skills to reimagine urban spaces as meaningful and functional environments, contributing to the dynamic transformation of contemporary cities.
Course Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, students will develop the following knowledge, skills, and competencies:
1. Develop critical thinking skills regarding urban spaces.
2. Understand key concepts related to urban interiors.
3. Analyze real-world case studies that demonstrate successful transformations of urban spaces, extracting valuable insights from these examples.
4. Enhance communication and presentation skills by articulating and visually representing design concepts and solutions, fostering effective collaboration and clear expression of ideas.
5. Acquire competence in tools and methods for evaluating the influence of urban interiors while also developing innovative approaches for relevant design scenarios.
6. Design practical solutions to improve the livability of urban spaces.
