Course Objectives
Understand the historical background of Afro-Eurasian civilizations.
Examine the relationship between cultures and their architectures in a historical context.
Understand the impact of various construction techniques and technologies that emerged in the modern world.
Question the development of interior spaces within a cultural context.
Analyze the relationships between capital, ideology, power, and architecture in different contexts.
Evaluate simultaneous architectural ideas in different geographies through a comparative approach.
Course Description
istory and Theory of Interior Architecture III aims to critically examine the developments in space, culture, and daily life in the 19th and 20th centuries, particularly in Türkiye, Europe, and the United States within an increasingly globalized world. In an era where societies became more integrated, one of the key objectives of this course is to trace cultural encounters and flows, discussing the historical background and formal characteristics of spatial practices. Within this scope, the course will analyze different architectural theories and practices through a comparative perspective within specific thematic frameworks.
Course Outcomes
Upon successfully completing this course, students will gain the following knowledge, skills, and competencies:
Knowledge of the role of geographical, historical, socio-cultural, ideological, political, economic, and religious factors in shaping space.
The ability to evaluate selected spatial examples from different civilizations and historical periods in the context of interior architectural components.
Critical thinking skills to question the intellectual background that shapes architectural and interior architectural theories.
Research and presentation skills on relevant topics.
