EUT 271E - Research for Product Design

Course Objectives

To provide an understanding of the basic principles of research.
To provide an understanding of how research can help solving a design problem.
To provide an overview of research methods specifically used to inform the design process.
To maintain that the students have experience in using some of these methods.

Course Description

Definition of research in general, why there is need for research; Research methods commonly
used to inform the design process; Design research methods: Interviews, different interviewing techniques, focus groups, observation, participant observation, ethnographic research methods,
video ethnography, developing user scenarios, developing behavioral prototypes, developing user personas, visual and verbal narrative development.
