Course Description This course examines the historical development of the landscape architecture
profession in Turkey through a multilayered and critical approach. Shaped by a
methodological framework focused on theory–practice relations, historiography, and
issues of memory and archiving, it covers a wide range of periods—from gardening
traditions to modernist planning, ecological transformation, and professional
institutionalization. It discusses transformations from the Late Ottoman to the
Republican era, shaped by both national and international actors. The course also
explores education, publications, competitions, and current practices. Supported by
field trips and student presentations, it aims to equip students with the ability to
critically link historical processes with contemporary professional issues.
