Course Objectives 1. To introduce the products and actors of the architectural milieu from the 19thcentury onwards;
2. To provoke historically grounded, critical and comparative thinking about the architecture of the period in consideration.
Course Description The social and cultural bases of modernity, Art Nouveau, Modernity and avant-garde approaches, Bauhaus, The pioneers of modern architecture, The congress of CIAM, The application of modernity to the urban scale, Art Deco, Totalitarian architecture, Modernism during the 1950's and 1960's: The International Style, The sensibility of historic environment and the early reactions against modernism, Postmodernism, current trends in architecture, Modernism in the architectural milieu of Republican period in Turkey.
