Course Objectives 1. To analyse the physical and social environment to identify the problems affecting the project area; and
2. To seek smart design solutions to address those problems and develop architectural project accordingly.
Course Description In this studio students will design a cultural precinct on a selected site along Büyükdere Street between Levent and Maslak. The aim is to seek smart design solutions offering better integrating opportunities to fragmented social environments, establish pedestrian convenience
and increase civic qualities in the curtilage of this highly dynamic and contrasting cultural landscape. Students are expected to offer a well-considered program for a ‘social precinct’. Functions contained within this precinct may include a cultural centre, performing art centre, library, community centre or similar uses in conjunction with the overall objectives of the studio. A particular emphasis should be given to the pedestrian convenience with the aim of increased civic quality of the area. The proposed program should include between 10,000sqm and 15,000sqm gross floor space.
