Course Objectives
1 - To give an understanding on the importance of materials science for engineering applications
2 - To teach the properties, structure and production processes of materials and to make the students understand the strong relations between them
3 - To give an understanding on the material selection and design using material science knowledge
Course Description
Introduction to materials science. Interatomic bonds and atomic structure. Classification of materials in terms of atomic structures. Crystal structures and imperfections. Alloys. Atomic motion and solid-state diffusion. Physical properties of engineeering materials. Classification of materials in terms of mechanical properties. Deformation mechanisms and fracture. Fatigue. Time-dependent behavior.
Course Outcomes
1 - To give an understanding on the importance of materials science for engineering applications
